Barnsley registered a tenth away win of the season as they came from behind twice to beat Wycombe Wanderers 4-2.

The hosts took the lead but Sam Cosgrove levelled on the stroke of half-time. Wycombe scored again early in the second half but Donovan Pines levelled with his first goal in English football.

Corey O’Keeffe put Barnsley in front then, after a red card for the hosts, substitute Conor Grant also netted his first goal for the club.

Barnsley remain fourth, three points off second but with games in hand on those above them. They are unbeaten in six, while they have not lost in nine away games.

Nicky Cadden and John McAtee were both unavailable so O’Keeffe and Cosgrove came in, with O’Keeffe out of position at left wing-back. Josh Benson was on the bench after almost four months out.

Ben Lubala saw a header from a tight angle easily saved by Liam Roberts, then the hosts took the lead on 16 minutes.

Pines missed a low cross from the left and Josh Earl’s half clearance went straight to Dale Taylor who fired into the bottom left corner.

Barnsley responded well with Cosgrove heading over from a left-wing corner then O’Keeffe’s header from Mael de Gevigney’s cross was tipped over by the goalkeeper. Cosgrove then touched an O’Keeffe cross well wide.

Wycombe almost made it 2-0 when a cross from the right was deflected onto the near post by a sliced Pines clearance.

Barnsley thought they should have had a penalty on 35 minutes when O’Keeffe went down in the box after a challenge by Jack Grimmer. There were more appeals for a penalty when Cosgrove went to ground in the box after being pushed by Grimmer, then both players were booked after clashing.

The equaliser arrived in the second minute of added time in the first half. Luca Connell curled a free-kick from 20 yards onto the underside of the bar then Cosgrove headed in from close range.

The hosts re-took the lead seven minutes after half-time when Earl thought the ball had gone out so stopped playing but Garath McCleary, who was on the floor, kicked it across goal for Kieran Sadlier to tap in from close range.

The lead lasted just three minutes as a Connell corner on the right was flicked on by Earl and headed by Cole then Pines scrambled it in with ex-Red Josh Scowen unable to clear off the line.

Connell and Kane shot over from just outside the box then McCleary’s weak effort from the right was easily saved by Roberts.

Barnsley took the lead when O’Keeffe fired into the bottom left corner from 12 yards out after meeting a right-wing cross by Jordan Williams.

Wheeler was sent off roughly ten seconds after coming off the bench for kicking out at O’Keeffe.

Grant came on and netted within minutes. After passes by Phillips and Williams, he turned on the right of the box and smashed a fine finish into the top right corner from a right angle.

Barnsley lost the ball near their goal several times late on but Sam Vokes blasted over from 20 yards with Wycombe’s only real chance.

Cole was played in on the left in injury-time but his shot from a tight angle was saved.
