BARNSLEY’S Adam Phillips has won League One Player of the Month for February.

The midfielder twice scored braces as the Reds came from behind to win, at home to Leyton Orient then Derby County, while he also recorded two assists in the win at Fleetwood.

Reds head coach Neill Collins said: “Adam has been excellent. The reason he won is he has stepped up in big moments. The goals are what bring him attention but his hard work on and off ball has been exceptional.”

It is the second time in three months that a Barnsley midfielder has won the award after Herbie Kane took the December trophy. Collins said: “It’s very good. There are other players who could have been up at certain times. It’s credit to us, we’re winning awards with 24 teams all having good players.”

Collins was nominated, after his side went unbeaten, but missed out.
