BARNSLEY Tennis Club’s first team have been crowned champions of their division in the Sheffield and District Tennis Winter League.
They narrowly finished ahead of promotion rivals Hallamshire in Division Two, having dropped just four points from 14 matches.
The team of Kieron Hinds, Michael Peretti, Rebecca Coe and Libby Wilson played their last match on Saturday, beating Mexborough A 4-0 to clinch the title.
Vice-chairman John Gregson said: “This is a great achievement for the club playing against much bigger clubs in the region.”
The B team finished in mid-table in Division Four and the C team likewise in Division Six.
The main summer season is due to start next month, with nearly 50 players representing the Wilthorpe-based club in women’s, mixed, junior and men’s teams while more than 100 attend training each week.
