BARNSLEY Women’s FC’s promotion hopes were dented by a 4-1 loss at home to title rivals Hull City on Wednesday in National League Division One North.

The visitors went 4-0 up then Louise Biggins netted.

The fourth-placed Reds are six points off leaders Middlesbrough with a game in hand but third-placed Hull have a point more than Barnsley from three fewer games. There is one promotion place.

Barnsley had won 3-0 at Norton and Stockton Ancients on Sunday – ending a run of two points from five games.

Rosie Axten opened the scoring with a penalty then, after Brooke Marsden made it 2-0 within minutes of coming off the bench, Axten completed the victory with a fine solo goal.

Barnsley WFC are not due to play again until March 24.

Barnsley FC women’s game in the North East Premier at South Shields on Sunday was called off. The Reds are fourth, one point off the top.

They are now due to host sixth-placed Sunderland West End on Sunday. There are just three points separating the top six and a point between the top five.

Wombwell Town lost 3-2 at Wickersley Youth in Division Four of the Sheffield and Hallamshire League.

Town are now due to host Pogmoor on Sunday and Mind Over Matter visit Kiveton Park.
