BARNSLEY youngsters won medals representing Yorkshire at the Inter County Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham.
Jonson Hughes, from Darfield, finished third overall in the under 17s category and took the team silver. His brother Rocco also competed in that race.
A third brother Sonnyboy finished 14th in the under 20s and won team silver.
Penistone Footpath Runners Graihagh Turner and Ruby Sykes won team medals. Turner finished in 19th place overall in the under 15 girls’ race with 14-46 and was the third counter for Yorkshire who placed third in the team standings.
Sykes competed in the senior women’s race and placed 53rd in 27-57, with the team taking silver.
Meanwhile, there was success for Barnsley AC at the Retford Half Marathon.
Naomi Drakeford was first woman, knocking an impressive three minutes off her Brass Monkey Half Marathon time from January.
She finished the 13.1 miles in difficult conditions with a time of 78-02.
Gareth Cooke and Gary Briscoe set new PBs in the distance, finishing third and fourth in times of 69-51 and 70-06.
Josh Bird was seventh, just four seconds shy of his best in 71-17.
Nathan Doy, in 81-25, made up the quartet which finished as second men’s team, just 32 seconds behind winners Danum Harriers. Chris McNicholas finished as second over60, running a new PB of 85-08.
Joe Restell recorded a time of 82-08.
Penistone’s Kate Rushforth (2-17-15) and Sara Wolstenholme (2-23-28) also took part. Barnsley Harrier David Hanks recorded a new PB of 1-17-51, finishing in 35th place, with Mark Rawnsley in 221st with 1-37-31.
Barnsley AC’s Sarah Burton finished in 3-45-05 at the Trimpell 20.
Barnsley Harrier Alan Ford finished as first male over45 and tenth overall with 1-59-21, with Rich Spooner in 21st place with 2-04-34.
Penistone’s Harriet Drouin and Steve Sanders took on the 32-mile Haworth Hobble which involves 4,400 feet of climbing. Steve got round in 6-18-53 and Harriet finished in 7-21-25.
Penistone’s Sarah Walch and Damien Kilpin completed the At The Double fell race at Skinning Grove.
Damian was 18th overall in 53-11 and Sarah 52nd in 1-04-54.
Penistone’s Andrew Taylor finished the Chester 10k in 1-10-00.
Barnsley Harrier Lisa Clarkson finished as first woman and fifth overall at the Punk Panther Welcome Way 20-mile race in Otley. She finished in three hours and 45 minutes.
Barnsley Harrier Jeff Clark was first male over55, with 2-56-40, and Bev Clark second woman over55, with 3-07-30, at the Runthrough GP Croft Motor Circuit 20-mile race.
Barnsley Harrier Jessica Holt completed two laps of the York March Hare, covering the 13.4 mile distance in 2-44-49.
There were ParkRun first places for Penistone’s George Parr (Penistone), Lauren Lees (Barnsley Juniors) and Flynn Rogers (Hillsborough Juniors).
Penistone’s Suzanne McGill finished second at Penistone.
