A LOCAL man will be facing the waxing strip for charity.

Darren Walker, from Cudworth, will be waxing his lower legs on Wednesday as he hopes to raise money for Biads (Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support).

He was inspired by his partner, Lisa Manley, whose parents Susan and Malcolm have been receiving support from the local charity over the past few years.

Lisa told the Chronicle: “My mum was diagnosed with dementia in 2019.

“As it progressed it was really draining for our family, especially my dad.

“He was told about BIADS’ support - it took a lot of convincing but he ended up going with mum in 2022.

“They both got a lot of support - mum’s now in a care home but dad still goes to BIADS and gets help.”

While talking about the situation over a few drinks, Darren decided he wanted to do something to support the charity.

He agreed to waxing his lower legs, and if the couple raise £500 will do all his legs and his chest - they’ve currently raised £442.

“After a couple of pints he said he wanted to raise some money for them,” Lisa added.

“We joked about waxing his chest and legs - a couple of days later I reminded him and he agreed to go for it.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Fay Lycett at Flawless Health and Beauty who has agreed to donate her time and waxing skills and of course to put Darren through some pain.”
