BARNSLEY clubs enjoyed success at the Rother Valley Relays.

Teams of four or three ran legs of 5k.

Penistone Footpath Runners’ men’s over50 team of Martin Ball, Shaun Swallow, Matt Robinson and Andrew Pearson were crowned champions.

Penistone’s mixed A team placed sixth in the mixed team category.

The team was made up of Gareth Irvine, Suzanne McGill, Will Hoyland and Hannah Shaw.

Barnsley AC’s over50 women Beth Massey, Gail Colville and Kerry Storrar won with 1-03-22.

Naomi Drakeford, Ruby Sykes and Eleanor Baker made up the second-placed women’s team in 53-06.

Barnsley AC’s men’s team of Kai Sunman, Gareth Cooke, Josh Bird and Gary Briscoe finished third, behind two very strong Hallamshire Harriers teams. Their combined time was 1-05-03.

Chris McNicholas, Dave Brooksbank and Dean Wallace finished as third over60 men’s team in 1-02-38.

At the Pontefract 10k, Barnsley AC’s Brad Walker was third in a time of 35-05.

Gavin Walker set a PB to finish eighth in 35-30.

Alan Nutton finished in 37-35.

Penistone’s Peter Beever finished in 48-43 and was followed in by Gemma Nutton who clocked 49-56.

At the 20-mile Hathersage Hurtle, Penistone’s Suzanne McGill was first woman and Shaun Swallow first over50 man.

Jemma Williams was fifth over40 woman. Others completing the course were Robin Clough, Chloe Worth, Heather Graham, Phil Hinchliffe, Chris Lowe and Tracy Woodward.

At the Keswick Mountain Festival 10k, Penistone’s George Parr came third in 46-55.

Penistone’s Dawn Broom was first over60 woman at the NDRC Run Forest 5k in a club record of 21-49.

Penistone’s Steve Sanders competed in all three days of the Hayfield Fell races festival.

The event involves races called Hayfield May Queen (Friday), Mount Famine (Saturday) and Lantern Pike Dash (Sunday).

Damian Kilpin competed in the Mount Famine and Lantern Pike races and Sarah Walch did the Mount Famine race.

Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett was third woman at the White Peak Half Marathon in a time of 1-39-03.

At the Dearne Valley 10k which started and finished at Manvers Lake, Barnsley AC’s Dean Wallace and Ben Hopson finished in times of 49-09 and 51-21 respectively.

At the Chester Half Marathon, Barnsley AC’s Zoe and Lee Mitchell completed the 13.1-mile course in times of 2-02-21 and 2-02-22.

At the 26.2-mile Leaden Boot Challenge, Barnsley Harrier Kelly Ford was 31st in 6-33-59 and Amie Ledger 292nd with 10-53-42.

At the Eyam Half Marathon, Barnsley Harrier Amelia Davies finished 369th in 2-56-39.

At the Higham Hurtle, there was a clean sweep for Barnsley AC with Vicky Shaw, Gail Colville and Gemma Thickett the top three women.

Chris McNicholas picked up the over60 men’s prize.

Damian Kilpin was first back for Penistone – placing second overall. There were also prizes for Penistone’s Shaun Swallow (first over50 man), Alan Knox (first over70 man) and Kathryn Watson (first over70 woman).
