THOUSANDS of residents flocked to a medieval-themed event last weekend - and a date has already been set for next year’s function after more than £4,000 was raised.

Medieval Mayhem took place at Monk Bretton Priory for the fourth time over the weekend.

It included knight battles, birds of prey, a puppet theatre and musicians.

There had been concerns that this would be the last event due to the spiralling costs, but those in attendance handed over more than £4,000 meaning it will return next year on May 17 and 18.

Organiser Victoria Agnew told the Chronicle: “It went really well.

“Around 1,800 people came on both days and we raised just over £4,000.

“It costs around £5,000 to put the event on but hopefully the ward alliance will be able to support us with it like they always do.

“The community has really supported the event and it shows with how much money was raised.

“We always wanted to bring it back next year but we weren’t able to foot the bill.

“It’ll take place on May 17 and May 18 next year which is great for everyone involved.”
