BARNSLEY man Joe Ferguson is disappointed to miss out on selection for next week’s European Athletics Championships but is fully focused on reaching the Paris Olympics later in the summer.
The 24-year-old from Darton finished fourth in a season’s best 20.85 at the 200m at an event in Brussels on Sunday.
But he was left out of the squad for the Europeans in Rome from June 7-12.
Ferguson said: “It’s pretty disappointing as I thought, from the weekend, I’d done enough to prove my place in the team.
“As disappointing as it is, my last race was a big confidence-booster and it puts me right where I need to be going into the next month ahead of the Olympic trials.
“I’m improving race by race and I’m ahead of where I was this time last year so it’s just all eyes on Paris now.”
