WORSBROUGH and Grenoside were the venues for most of the Barnsley runners in the week following the London and Manchester Marathons.

Six Penistone Footpath Runners took part in the RunGreno Trail Race, a 7.3 mile route based in Grenoside.

First home for the club was Richard Cottam in third with a time of 46-18. Jemma Williams was first Penistone woman to cross the line, finishing 56th overall in 59-07, quick enough to claim first in the women’s over40 category.

Barnsley AC’s Tommy Fidler finished ninth overall in a time of 48-23. Faye Lund also completed the race in 1-08-56.

Simon Haywood was the first home for the eight Barnsley Harriers with Antonette Wilson first Harrier woman.

Worsbrough was the venue for the third South Yorkshire Road League meet of 2025 – a hilly course looping up to Birdwell before dropping back down.

James Mumford was first back for Penistone in 14th position with a time of 29-36. Suzanne McGill was first Penistone woman to cross the finish line, coming home in 75th with 33-37, just a few days after completing the London Marathon.

First back for Barnsley AC was Richard Copley who finished seventh overall and third over35 man in 28-47.

Beth Massey was second over50 woman in a time of 38-34. There were also third place age category positions for Richard Price (over50 man) and Lesley Pickersgill (over55 woman) who ran times of 31-24 and 41-19 respectively.

Fresh from the London Marathon, Richard Spooner led back the 18 Harriers. Katie Roberts was the first woman back and there was a PB for Neil Murphy running his first five-mile race for the club.

One week on from completing the Three Peaks Fell Race and the London Marathon one day after the next, Penistone’s Simon Pike took on the next challenge in his fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer Now.

He travelled to Northern Ireland to complete the Belfast Marathon and got round in 3-25-14, placing him 708th.

For the second time in two weeks, Barnsley Harrier Jessica Gadsby and her daughter Darcy completed a marathon, this time in Belfast. Jessica finished in a PB of 5-04-28.

Harrier Paula Mills finished the Grim Up North ‘not done London’ Half Marathon at Skelton Lake in 2-01-11.

Barnsley Harriers’ Angie Slater competed the Newcastle to Gateshead 10k. She was 310th in 56-05 and has so far raised £885 for Brain Tumour Research.

At May’s No Walk in the Park 5k race in Chesterfield’s Queen’s Park, Barnsley AC’s Keith Littlewood finished as first over55 man in a time of 18-36.

Penistone’s Joanne Boreham travelled to Saddleworth to compete in the ten-mile Cake Race around the Marsden and Diggle area, getting round in one hour and 53 minutes.
