BEN Davies says he has unfinished business in boxing as he prepares to step back through the ropes after a seven and a half year break.
The middleweight, 35, last fought in December 2017.
That was a points loss to the unbeaten Dale Coyne in the away corner.
It rounded off a three-fight losing streak and frustration grew for the Dodworth man.
With a young family he gave up the sport but continued to compete in natural bodybuilding.
It has ensured he has remained in good shape and he feels it’s now or never to give boxing another bash and improve on his won nine, lost six, drawn one record.
He said: “I had left boxing without winning a title of any recognition so I have definitely got unfinished business.
“I was fighting in the away corner to get opportunities and enough was enough by the end.
“There is nothing like boxing.
“From getting up early to train to getting in the ring.
“I loved absolutely everything about it.”
Whilst Davies has been away, Callum Simpson has emerged as the town’s leading light. He is someone Davies has encountered at both ends of his career.
“Obviously Callum has got boxing booming in Barnsley,” said Davies.
“He was my first spar back, after seven years out, so it was straight in at the deep end.
“I sparred him back when he was an amateur too.
“I think I was a bit too eager in my career, to put it politely.
“I boxed several champions in my first ten fights and probably should have built myself up slower.”
Davies is back in action tonight at the Magna Centre in Rotherham and set to fight against Newcastle-under-Lyme’s Joe Blandford.
