A 7-1 thrashing of Bottesford Town moved Athersley Recreation a step closer to promotion from Division One of the Northern Counties East League.

Top-scorer Jason Bentley took his tally to 31 for the season with two goals while brothers Lee and Steven Bennett also hit doubles and Joe Thornton netted.

North Gawber gained a 6-1 win at third-placed Sheffield Medics to go nine points clear at the top of the South Yorkshire Amateur League with six games to play. Gawber have won 14 and drawn one of their 15 league games, while scoring 75 goals and conceding ten.
