A 7-1 thrashing of Bottesford Town moved Athersley Recreation a step closer to promotion from Division One of the Northern Counties East League.

Second-placed Rec are unbeaten in nine games and will be playing in the Premier Division next season if they pick up six points from their remaining three matches starting with a top-of-the-table clash at leaders Albion Sports. Top-scorer Jason Bentley took his tally to 31 for the season with two goals while brothers Lee and Steven Bennett also hit doubles and Joe Thornton netted.

Worsbrough Bridge came from behind to win 3-1 at Rossington Main thanks to an own goal, a Scott Turner wonderstrike and a 26th goal of the season for Lee Garside.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce stayed top of the County Senior Premier League with a 5-1 win at home to Kinsley Boys on Saturday. Danny Barlow and Carl Fothergill bagged braces while Kevin O'Connor also struck.

Aquaforce's title rivals Penistone Church drew 0-0 in a Barnsley derby at Wombwell Main on Saturday then Church then won 3-1 at Stocksbridge reserves on Monday as Mitch Savage, Mark Crossfield and Lewis Dickinson scored. Wombwell drew 1-1 at home to Swallownest on Monday as Simon Chadburn netted.

Houghton Main lost 1-0 at home to high-flying Millmoor Juniors on Saturday but thrashed Davy 4-1 at home two days later as Luke Sykes hit a superb hat-trick and Ashley Vickers also struck.

North Gawber gained a 6-1 win at third-placed Sheffield Medics to go nine points clear at the top of the South Yorkshire Amateur League with six games to play. Man of the match Callum Mackie bagged a brace and the other scorers were Jake Bedford, Luke Marsden, Nathan Simms and Craig Walton. Gawber have won 14 and drawn one of their 15 league games, while scoring 75 goals and conceding ten.
