Cricketers in Higham have got their kit off after dreaming up a fundraising scheme for their new pavilion in the pub.

Club secretary, Ian Lake, who has held the position for 22 years, said the idea for the charity calendar, came while the lads were in the Engineers Arms, Higham.

"To be fair everybody seemed up for it," he said. "Most of the calendar is cricket themed like the lads coming out of the shower or in the changing room. It's definitely a first for us and we're fortunate that the lad whose idea it was works for Gist which has sponsored the calendar."

Half the proceeds will go to Barnsley Hospice and Ian, 45, of Gawber, said they want to make as much as possible, with 80 of the 165 calendars already snapped up.

"So far we've been quoted in excess of £200,000 for the new building which is not just a cricket pavilion but a building for all year use by the wider community and we hope that community groups, schools and businesses will benefit from the proposed new building."

Ian says if you want to treat your better half for Christmas or 'keep the kids and pets away from the fire', you can pick up a calendar from him by calling 07984 511 140, emailing ianlk2@aol.com or calling in to the Engineers Arms on Higham Common Lane.
