Premier League Swansea City have signed Barnsley centre-back Alfie Mawson.

The 22-year-old has been chased by various clubs all summer with the Swans eventually matching the Reds' valuation.

He joined Barnsley a year ago after leaving first club Brentford, netting nine goals in 64 games last season as he formed a superb partnership with Roberts on the way to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the League One play-off final. He has already netted twice in five games this season.

A Reds statement reads: "As well as his efforts on-the-field, Alfie has also gone an above and beyond the call of duty off-the-field. Most notably the defender befriended four-year-old fan 'Little Alfie' Ledgeway, as the young Red continues to recover from brain surgery.

"We would like to thank Alfie for his fantastic contribution to the club over the past 14 months, both on and off the field, and we wish him all the very best in his future career."
