Barnsley lost a lead as they drew 1-1 at home to Doncaster Rovers in the South Yorkshire derby on Tuesday night.

Lewin Nyatanga headed in early on but Donny responded well and Theo Robinson levelled soon after half-time.

The match was Barnsley's game in hand on many teams above them and the point took them up one place to 14th, seven points away from the top six and four above the bottom three.

Manager Danny Wilson initially made two changes from the team that lost at home to Scunthorpe United on Saturday with the injured Sam Winnall and suspended Martin Cranie being replaced by Leroy Lita and Reece Brown. Mason Holgate and Jack Cowgill, 18-year-old centre-backs, were brought onto the bench. Joe Dudgeon was injured in the warm-up so Holgate came in at right-back with Brown moving to the left.

Any early nerves the hosts may have had were settled when Nyatanga headed in a Conor Hourihane corner in the sixth minute.

Lita's excellent 18-yard volley was tipped over the bar by visiting goalkeeper Sam Johnstone but it was home stopper Ross Turnbull who was most busy. The former Doncaster player denied Kyle Bennett when one-on-one at a tight angle then again with a superb diving save from a long-range shot and he also brilliantly dug shots by Robinson out of each bottom corner.

But Turnbull was helpless seven minutes into the second half when a cross from the right was blocked straight to Robinson who fired in from eight yards out.

The match reduced in quality after that but both scorers could have doubled their tallies in the last five minutes as Robinson fired straight into Turnbull's arms when through and Nyatanga headed another Hourihane corner wide.
