Barnsley are expecting Boxing Day visitors Peterborough United to be intent on revenge after their 4-0 home loss on October 6.

The Reds cruised to victory at London Road against Posh who are fifth in the table, one place and two points ahead of their hosts on Wednesday who have played one game fewer.

Centre-back Liam Lindsay said: “They will want revenge against us after we went to their place and put four past them. It will be a tough game but we want three points.

“We’re playing a lot of the teams near the top but it could be good for our momentum and to test ourselves. If we can do the double over Peterborough then it would send a message to the other clubs in the division.”

Head coach Daniel Stendel gave his team Sunday off, because they won at Blackpool on Saturday, then they were due to have a Christmas Eve training session today.

Stendel said: “Peterborough is a good team. They are close to us in the league and we want to beat them. We will not be thinking about the last game, it is 0-0 for both teams.”

This will be Stendel’s first Boxing Day match, as German football takes three weeks off after Christmas. He said: “I was reading in German newpspapers about players being ready for the winter break because they are so tired but the English players say ‘we want more games.’ I am happy, I enjoy these games. It’s new but it’s good. I like football and I like it when my team plays.”

Stendel left Lloyd Isgrove, the former Peterborough player, out of his 18-man squad at Blackpool. The Reds boss said: “We have a lot of good players and we can only have 18 in the squad. Issy was not in the squad but the next game is another situation.”
