Barnsley maintained their unbeaten record in pre-season with a 1-0 success at Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock on Tuesday.
Conor Wilkinson headed in early in the second half to cap an encouraging display from the visitors.
Scotland international Kris Boyd headed wide early on for the hosts, Adam Davies scrambled to save a Josh Magennis shot and ex-Red Kallum Higginbotham came close with two long-range shots.
But Barnsley played the better football without creating great chances in the first half although Marley Watkins forced save from a tight angle and Mike Phenix fired over from the edge of the box.
Wilkinson had just fired narrowly wide with a free-kick after the break but gave Barnsley the lead minutes later as he headed in George Smith's cross from the left.
Watkins should have doubled the lead when he volleyed Smith's corner into the ground and wide then he had another chance when put clean through by a superb Ben Pearson pass but goalkeeper Craig Samson made an excellent save.
Davies then denied Dale Carrick when he went through one-on-one.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.

Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
