Matty Wolfe is ‘knocking on the door’ of the first team, says Barnsley under 23 coach Martin Devaney.

The 18-year-old central midfielder, who has been with the Reds for almost a decade, trains regularly with the first team and scored both goals in the under 23s’ 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Devaney said: “Everyone at the club from the top to the bottom knows what he’s capable of. He had a long injury and that was his seventh game back.  “He is knocking on the door of the first team. He trains with them every day. He’s a very good player.  Hopefully he might be involved in the first team before the end of this season or, if not, then next season.”
