A BARNSLEY woman who celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday was overwhelmed to receive hundreds of cards from people around town.
Madge Slater has been a resident at Ward Green Lodge in Worsbrough for four years – and to celebrate her 100th birthday, staff at the home posted an appeal online to send cards in.
They originally wanted 100 cards but they ended up with nearly three times that amount.
Elaine Wilcox, activities co-ordinator at the home, said: “We put an appeal out on Facebook to see if we could receive 100 cards but we ended up with about 290. We weren’t expecting this many – there’s some from school kids and other care homes so she’s a bit overwhelmed.”
