A PLAQUE celebrating Barnsley’s twin town Schwabisch-Gmund is to be given pride of place in the town centre after plans were approved by the council’s planning board.

The plaque, which celebrates the twinning agreement signed in 1971, will be placed in the Library @ the Lightbox.

An application was originally submitted in November before it was given the go-ahead this week.

This year, members of Barnsley-Schwabisch Gmund Twin Town Society are marking 50 years of the official twinning agreement - albeit delayed for a year due to Covid.
