THREE Barnsley schools were partially closed on Tuesday due to staffing capacity.

Outwood Academy Carlton closed to year eight students due to ‘exceptional levels of staff absence’ - and it’s been closed since.

A letter sent to parents and carers by principal Paul Haynes said: “The health, safety and welfare of our students, staff, families and the community are at the forefront of the decisions we make as a school.

“It is with regret that we have had to make the decision to carry out an enforced partial closure to year eight.

“At this moment in time, exceptional levels of staff absence means that we cannot safely accommodate all students in the academy.

“We have made the decision to close to year eight from Tuesday March 29 for the rest of the week.”

Parts of primary six and year seven were closed at Springwell Special Academy and foundation stage one at Kings Oak Primary Learning Centre was closed in the afternoon.
