TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved former headteacher and amateur theatre performer after her death.

Margaret Child - known as Peggy - died in Barnsley Hospital last week aged 96 after a short illness.

She taught at Dodworth St John the Baptist C of E Primary School, where she covered a number of subjects before becoming headteacher.

After her retirement, friend Henry Rajch told the Chronicle, she joined the Old Town Drama Group and starred in many plays.

She was also an active member of St Paul’s Church, Old Town and a committee member of the Barnsley Recorded Music Society for many years.
