A BARNSLEY MP is set to submit a plan to upgrade the Penistone Line - which will double the services every hour.

Miriam Cates, Tory MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, visited Dodworth train station last week to see £90,000 of work that’s been carried out.

The upgrades include the footbridge which has now been made visible and secure, and improving the safety of people crossing.

Ms Cates is now set to apply for more funding from the government’s ‘Levelling Up Fund’, and is hopeful more improvements will be made.

She said: “Whether it’s for commuting to work or school, or travelling into our towns and cities to access shops and medical services, it’s important that all people living across the constituency have access to a network of well connected and safe public transport options.

“I’m therefore pleased that our bid to upgrade the Penistone Line will soon be submitted to round two of the Levelling Up Fund bidding process.

“Should this bid be successful, we’ll see a doubling of the services.

“Dodworth, Penistone, Silkstone Common, Chapeltown and other local stations will benefit from the upgrade, providing a more regular and reliable service for residents.”
