‘LONG Covid’ has led Barnsley bosses to seek further funding from the local Clinical Commissioning Group.

A report issued to Tuesday’s meeting of the board of the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said additional staffing is being sought for Barnsley’s ‘Breathe’ community respiratory services and its pulmonary rehabilitation team.

“These roles would offer assessment of need, diagnosis, and appropriate therapeutic intervention to improve issues developed from post-Covid infection,” it said.

“And interventions would include suitable exercises and breathing techniques to facilitate recovery or management of conditions occurring because of long Covid.”

Local bosses have also submitted bids for funding additional occupational therapy staff in respiratory and rehabilitation, specialist respiratory nurse support for the Breathe team, and senior therapy assistant input for patients with long Covid.
