A ‘KIND-HEARTED and warm’ woman will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday.
May Cuthbert was born in West Melton on May 15, 1922.
She’s one of six children and left home at the age of 14 to go into service.
She married her husband, Eric, in 1944 - and subsequently moved to London with him, but after three years she decided it was time to move back to Barnsley.
Her daughter, Pam Jones, said: “She’s very active and loves to dance - she used to go dancing until she turned 92.
“She’s kind-hearted and warm and really lovely.
“She is someone that you can always rely on and she always used to help out.”
May has three children, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
