A DATE has been set for this year’s Proud of Barnsley awards - and there’s now a chance to nominate unsung heroes who deserve their time in the limelight.

Taking place on November 18 at Barnsley Metrodome, the night will celebrate the best of what Barnsley has to offer.

Previous winners include legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird, campaigner Claire Throssell and young Jack Fenton who saved the life of a child whilst on holiday.

The Chronicle hold the awards every year and it’s now time to nominate the most deserving residents for the award.

The categories for this year’s awards are: Hospital Hero, Children’s Champion, Charity of the Year, Young Superstar, Community Hero, Sporting Achievement, Community Group, School of the Year, Triumph Over Adversity, Exceptional Achievement, Carer of the Year, Charity Fundraiser, Volunteer of the Year, Love Where You Live and Charity Fundraiser.
