TWO teenagers were arrested after footage of a ‘deeply disturbing’ attack on a pensioner in Barnsley Interchange - a hotspot for antisocial behaviour in the town centre - was shared online.
The footage, which was originally shared on Facebook, showed two teenagers attack a pensioner who was on crutches.
The shocking footage was condemned by the public, and South Yorkshire Police acted promptly and arrested two people - a male and a female - in connection with the incident on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police told the Chronicle: “Police received a report at around 7.15pm on Monday, July 4 of an assault of a man in his 60s at Barnsley Interchange.
“The man suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.
“A 15-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
“Both have been bailed.
“We are aware of a video of the incident circulating on social media.
“The investigation is ongoing and we would discourage anyone from speculating or sharing the video further, to allow us to progress this matter appropriately.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 265 of July 5.”
