WORK on a long-awaited kids’ cycle track finally started this week - after more than £26,000 was secured for its construction.
The track was the idea of community group for Mapplewell and Staincross Greenspace, who aim to promote the use of Mapplewell Park for recreation and leisure.
The cycle track is expected to be completed in the next week, with signage being put up over the next month.
Treasurer Carl Snowden said: “It was an idea we have had for a number of years now.
“Part of the group are keen cyclists and as we help in the community we thought this would be an ideal space for it.
“We managed to get funding from the the National Lottery, Co-op Communities and Barnsley Council, raising just over £26,000 for it.
“It will help to keep kids active and tackle obesity as well.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
