FASHION designer Katie Newsam is in the running to be crowned the best-dressed lady in Yorkshire.

Katie, 34, from Shafton, won the best dressed lady title at Ladies’ Day at Doncaster Races earlier this month and is now in the final vying against the winners from the other eight race courses in Yorkshire.

The Doncaster title netted Katie £1,000, a clothing voucher as well as flowers and champagne and, should she win this county-wide title, her prizes will include a luxury break.

Katie, who owns a fashion studio on Barnsley Road in Cudworth, said: “I love to get dressed up and drink champagne and went to the races with my sister and my dad.

“They pick people out of the crowd and I found out on the day that I had won the best-dressed title which was lovely, particularly as I had made the dress myself.

“I went to Pontefract Races about five years ago and won a holiday to Sri Lanka so there are some lovely prizes.”

Katie has run her own fashion design studio - Katie Newsam Fashion - for around eight years, offering one-off bespoke outfits for special occasions and she also does reiki, angel card reading and birth charts.

“I am really happy to be in the final and it also helps me promote my business.”

This year, the winner will be chosen by a public vote and organisers - Go Racing! - are inviting people to vote for their favourite outfit.

Voting closes at 9am on Saturday October 1.
