A BIRTHDAY celebration was held at Buckingham House care home last weekend.
Hilda Irvine - now 100 years old - originally from Denby Dale, celebrated the milestone last weekend at the care home in Penistone.
Mrs Ivine was a resident of Ingbirchworth for 50 years where she lived with her late husband, David, a miner.
Hilda was a dinner lady at several local schools for many years including Denby Dale, Scissett and Penistone Grammar School.
Known as a ‘bit of a character’ and still as bright as a button,
A party for residents - prepared by members of staff - took place at the home last Friday and a second one was held on Sunday for friends and family, including her two daughters, six grandchilren and great-grandchildren.
Hilda said: “The dining room was beautifully decorated with banners and balloons with a celebration cake.
“It was all a lovely big surprise.
“I owe my longevity to keeping active and mixing with a range of different people.”
