A MAN has been charged after a grave was disturbed at a village cemetery.
Wayne Joselyn, formerly of Barnsley but now in HMP Doncaster Prison, was charged with interference with a grave under section 25 of the Burial Act 1857, and also with outraging public decency.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called to Carlton Cemetery at about 2.50pm on May 2 following reports from a passer-by that a grave had possibly been disturbed.
“Working carefully with teams of experts it was determined nothing had been taken from the grave.”
The 43-year-old will appear at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
