ALMOST 30 Ford Fiestas were stolen in Barnsley during a one-month period, new police statistics have revealed.

Work to prevent vehicle-related crime has been a priority for the town’s police in recent months, after September saw 29 Fiestas being broken into.

Investigators believe keyless entry systems have been taken advantage of by thieves, but in recent months incidents have ‘significantly reduced’ following the arrests of three offenders.

A report said: “Reductions are now evident following our prompt proactivity.”
