FEBRUARY is set to be a month of firsts for Nicky Cadden who scored his first Barnsley goal on Wednesday and is expected to become a father in the coming days.

The 26-year-old Scottish left wing-back netted in the 2-1 win at Oxford United and is staying down south with the Reds who visit Portsmouth tomorrow.

His partner is heavily pregnant.

Cadden said: “She’s about to pop any minute so these away games aren’t the best.

“I am just waiting for the phonecall and getting excited.

“I have told her to calm it down until after Portsmouth.”

Summer signing Cadden ended a 24-game wait for his first Barnsley goal.

“It didn’t play on my mind and I knew it would come. I was having shots which were hitting the bar and the post or ‘keepers were making good saves.

“I knew it would come if I kept getting myself in the right areas.”

Cadden fired into the bottom right corner from close range from a Herbie Kane assist.

“Herbie squared it to me and I just wanted to put it across the ‘keeper.

“Thankfully it went in and I was buzzing. There’s no better feeling than scoring a goal.

“It was really good to do it in front of the travelling fans and celebrate with them.”

Barnsley have now won back to back games after losing their first three of 2023 without scoring, including one in the FA Cup.

“It was a little blip but it was only two league games.

“We’re just trying to do as well as we can game by game and see where it takes us.

“We’re delighted with the two wins and looking forward to Portsmouth.”
