A TEACHER at Horizon Community College has been sacked after an investigation into an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a student.

The Chronicle understands that while no sexual contact had been involved, the teacher was dismissed because their behaviour compromised the standards expected in a teacher/student relationship.

A spokesman for HCAT, the trust which operates Horizon, said: “Horizon Community College is fully cognisant of its duty to keep children safe in education and has several processes including robust safeguarding policies and procedures to identify and ensure any safeguarding concern is addressed appropriately with openness, honesty, integrity, and accountability.

“Where safeguarding breaches are identified this can lead to suspension, and ultimately the dismissal of an employee.

“Also, where appropriate referrals to agencies are made to ensure the safety of children which includes the police and the local authority designated officer for safeguarding.

“However, due to strict data protection laws, we are not able to comment on the specifics of an individual case.”
