THE granddaughters of two cricketers, members of Darton Lane Head Club cricket team at the beginning of the last century, have made contact with each other as a result of the team picture in Memories.

June Wogan, who loaned the photograph estimated to be 100 years old, had recognised her grandfather, John Edward Tremble, seated on the far left of the second row from the front. The picture was found among the possessions of her father, George Tremble.

Shortly after publication, we received a telephone call from Jean Limbert (nee Crowther) who spotted her granddad Frederick Crowther (senior). He is seated third left on the second row from the front, next-door-but-one as it were from John Edward Tremble.

Coincidentally, both men lived in the former Brick Row, Woolley Edge.

Both ladies were delighted their grandfathers had played in the same cricket team and, possibly, were not only fellow team members, but, also, close friends. “The photograph brought back many happy memories and it was so nice the granddaughters of the two cricketers could make contact all these years later,“ they said.
