BARNSLEY decided not to appeal Nicky Cadden’s red card from Monday.

The left wing-back was sent off during the win over Shrewsbury Town. He is facing a three-game ban.

Head coach Michael Duff said: “We have spoken to the referees and they have given us indication that it would be pointless and we don’t want to make a frivolous appeal (which could add an extra game to the ban).

“We don’t agree with ref’s decision. But there was contact, he had decision to make and he made it. There were four or five incidents more deserving of a red card. We have to suck it up. Nicky is gutted but it’s an opportunity for somebody else.”

Ziyad Larkeche has been the back-up left-back throughout the season but the Fulham loanee has started just two league games. The Reds could also play Liam Kitching or Jordan Williams there out of position. Duff said: “We have a few options. The obvious one is Ziyad. He is the one I have felt sorry for. We’ve been giving him minutes for his attitude and application. He will have a career in football because of his professionalism. I don’t know what his future will be but if you offered me him next year, I wouldn’t say no.”

Defender Robbie Cundy is back in contention following a hip problem.
