FOLLOWING the recent revelations about Tom Selleck’s family history in Barnsley, we dug deep into our archives to find the original story about the couple who took up posts with the former Magnum P.I superstar.
John and Lynn Daykin, who are now divorced, were hired by the Selleck’s in the early 1990s and worked as his ranch manager and personal chef.
The former police officers from Monk Bretton had held similar roles at the house of legendary film director Stephen Spielberg.
At the time, Lynn said: “I think every woman in America, never mind England envies my job.
“We live in with Tom and his English wife Jillie on their huge ranch in Hidden Valley, California, and they are a really nice couple to work for.”
Lynn also revealed what Tom’s favourite dishes were.
“He’s a meat and potato men. He just loves very plain food, but his favourite is the desserts and especially chocolate cake.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
