BARNSLEY Main Heritage Group received a visit from MP Dan Jarvis last Friday.

Sarah Dewey, a volunteer at the group, told the Chronicle they were able to showcase some of their latest projects and discuss potential avenues for future schemes with the Barnsley Central MP.

“We currently have two projects,” she said.

“We are creating a miners’ garden as part of research on phytomining with Brunel University which is exploring whether plants can be used to clean contaminated soil.

“We are also working on a Heritage Lottery-funded project with local historian, Joshua Daniels, to create a digital legacy, including a documentary and group website.”

The heritage group are also hosting an open day next Saturday between 11am and 2pm with other local civic and environmental groups attending as well as a tour of the site.
