A BARNSLEY Hospital worker who has clocked up almost 40 years’ service is doing her bit to raise cash in order to transform a room where youngsters have blood tests.
Linda Schofield, a sister in the children’s outpatient department, was inspired by a colleague, Julie Sadler, to take part in Barnsley Hospital Charity’s cold water plunge at Manvers Lake.
She said: “In February my colleague and friend Julie had a brain aneurysm and is currently being cared for by the neuro critical care team.
“Julie’s skills in phlebotomy are the best I have ever seen and added to this her kindness and empathy makes every child and their family feel at ease and safe in her hands.
“In recognition of Julie’s outstanding dedication to her job and encouragement to continue her fight our team wish to transform this room.
“I hope to raise money to purchase decorations and distraction items to use in the room.
“My wish would be to make the room as welcoming and as special as Julie so that when she returns she will know how loved and appreciated she is.”
Jane Mills, Barnsley Hospital Charity’s development manager, added: “Linda has already raised an incredible £1,245 from the cold water plunge and has a fabulous vision for the room based on the theme of beach, pirates, treasure and jewels.”
