Barnsley have a deal ‘pretty much done’ for an unnamed defender and are hoping to bring in at least one further player before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.

The Reds are hoping to strengthen in attack – with interest in Rotherham’s Joshua Kayode – and defence before the deadline of 11pm on Friday.

Head coach Neill Collins said: “One is pretty much done and we’re working away on other stuff.”

Collins believes no key players will be sold. He said: “Based on everything I have heard, I feel confident we will keep everyone we want to keep.

“But we have all been in the game long enough to know things can change. We will stay level headed until the window is closed.”

With a new striker potentially coming in, existing players like Oli Shaw could be loaned out. He has been liked with Motherwell.

Collins said: “If you’re bringing people in, now and again you have to make space. Oli Shaw is one who could get an opportunity on loan, along with others. But nothing is finalised.”
