A WARD Green couple who will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary next week said the secret to a happy marriage is ‘having a sense of humour’.

Born and bred in Barnsley, both Patricia and Peter Dowle, 79, first met at a Christmas party when they were just 17.

They then married just two years later and the couple will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday.

Patricia told the Chronicle: “We met at a Christmas party and he was the DJ at the time.

“We’ve been together ever since we met at 17.

“We got married in Worsbrough Dale Church.

“I’m from Worsbrough Bridge and Peter’s from Worsbrough Common - we’ve both had different jobs.

“I’ve been a shop assistant and a hospital worker and Peter has been a steel worker all his life.
