A RESTAURANT in Penistone has been recognised as one of the most enjoyed in the world.
The Vault Bistro and Speakeasy on St Mary’s Street recently earned the prestigious Traveller’s Choice Award from Tripadvisor.
The award recognises the organisations that are in the top ten percentile of highest reviewed businesses on the site.
Owner Will Rodgers told the Chronicle: “I only found out when an email came through that was just saying we’d won.
“It was a bit of a shock but really exciting - I quickly printed it out and shared it with everyone.
“Everyone’s really happy, and the front of house staff are especially chuffed.
“It’s just nice to be recognised for everything that we’ve been doing.”
The restaurant, which is built within a former HSBC bank, was the project of Will and his partner Georgie Harrison, who acquired the space back in 2016.
The old bank’s vault is the central feature of the restaurant, with the inner workings of the grand vault door on display within the unisex toilets.
“I’m from a hospitality background, my dad always worked in restaurants,” Will added.
“We always wanted to run our own restaurant and ended up selling our house to fund all of this.
“It’s going really well, we’ve just launched our new menu this week - we are always trying to keep fresh and up to date.”
