A YOUNG scout group met with the Mayor of Barnsley earlier this week to learn about his role.

The Squirrels - youngsters aged between four and six - from the 22nd Barnsley Scout Group had the chance to meet with Mick Stowe at the town hall.

He gave them a guided tour of the council chamber and the mayor’s parlour, explaining what happens there and what his role as mayor involves.

Tina Langley, the group scout leader, told the Chronicle: “The Squirrels were working towards their local super hero activity badge where they have to lean about and visit the place of work of a local super hero.

“It’s about someone who does great things in their community and Mick fitted the bill.

“The Squirrel section meet on Friday evenings at the Central Scout Headquarters at Wilthorpe.”
