A MAJOR commuting link which was closed after a water main burst in the early hours of Wednesday morning will remain shut until Monday while repair work is carried out.

Traffic chaos has ensued on Grange Lane, Cundy Cross, with diversions put in place while Yorkshire Water engineers fix the underground pipe and damaged road.

The incident occurred at about 4am and Yorkshire Water apologised for the inconvenience.

A spokesperson said: “There was damage to the road surface caused by the water that left the network and we need to fully reinstate and resurface the section before the road can be reopened.

“The repair of the 600mm main is ongoing and our teams are expecting to complete the repair, as well as the road reinstatement and resurfacing required due to the damaged road surface, in the coming days.

“We are expecting the road to be safe for reopening on Monday afternoon.”
