A BARNSLEY man who killed a father and son in a hit-and-run in Cudworth last year has been given a 12-year jail term.

Emergency services were called to the incident on January 20 last year but cyclists Dean Jones, 45, and 16-year-old Lewis Daines were pronounced dead at the scene.

Paul Yates, of Manor Road in Cudworth, was subsequently arrested and pleaded guilty to seven counts - all in relation to death by dangerous driving - at a Sheffield Crown Court appearance on April 25.

Yates - who was also driving whilst uninsured and without a licence - was sentenced on Monday.

He received an immediate sentence reduction of a third - from 18 years to 12 years - having entered an early guilty plea.
