PHILIP Thompson crossed the finishing line of his 100th park run to a ‘tremendous reception’ last weekend.

The 89-year-old completed the Barnsley Park Run at Locke Park on Saturday in support of Parkinson’s UK - a charity close to his heart.

He and his wife were founding members on the organisation’s Barnsley branch back in 2002 - and a total of 12 people from the charity were cheering Philip on on the day.

Phil said: “It was a very successful day.

“We had 12 people from the organisation and eight of us ran it.

“We didn’t break any records - obviously - but we caused a bit of a stir.

“There were around 170 runners so they’ll be well aware of the Parkinson’s branch now.

“We had a tremendous reception when we crossed the line.

“It was well worth the effort.”
