Penistone Church bounced back from their Barnsley derby loss to Athersley Recreation on Saturday with a surprise success at NCEL Division One leaders AFC Mansfield on Wednesday.

Mansfield went into the game having won ten and drawn one of their 11 league games. They took the lead but Oliver Fearon and Andy Barlow won it for Penistone. It was a good recovery for Church who conceded two scruffy goals at vital points in their 2-0 loss to Athersley in the FA Vase at the weekend. Rec avoided the upset thanks to goals in either half from Ryan Blackburn and Daniel Joynes.

It was a good week for Shaw Lane Aquaforce as they won 3-0 at home to New Mills in the FA Trophy on Sunday then 4-0 at Shelley in the Sheffield Senior Cup on Wednesday. Gibraltar international Adam Priestley scored a hat-trick for the Ducks in midweek.

Wombwell Main became the first team for more than a year to beat Caribbean Sports in a County Senior League match as they won 3-2 in Division One. Kingstone United beat visitors Eccleshill United 4-1 while Silkstone United won 6-4 at Byron House.Houghton Main remain top of the Premier Division after their second successive 3-0 away win, this time at Wickersley.

In the South Yorkshire Amateur League, Working Wonders gained the biggest win in their history with an extraordinary 11-6 success at Sheffield West End. There were hat-tricks for Alex Bamford and Brett Herring. Haydn Musgrave hit a hat-trick in Dale Dynamos’ 5-2 success at home to FC Zemplin.
