Athersley Rec ended a run of seven successive home defeats with a 5-0 thrashing of Garforth Town on Wednesday.

It was Athersley's first home victory since August and took them up two places to 17th Northern Counties Premier League. Martin Scully bagged a brace in the impressive victory. Also on target were Adam Podmore, Jack Owen and Ryan Smith.

In Division One, former Athersley man Danny Joynes made it five goals in two games since rejoining Penistone Church as his late brace salvaged a 3-3 draw at second-placed Hemsworth. The hosts had been 3-1 up after 75 minutes.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce made the Sheffield Senior Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 win at Worsbrough Bridge on Tuesday. In terrible conditions, the Ducks goals came from Lee Morris, Jordan Deacey and Adam Priestley.

Houghton Main stayed top of the County Senior League's Premier Division with a 2-0 success at reigning champions Swinton Athletic. Ashley Emmett and Kieran Hirst netted for Houghton to put them three points clear of second-placed Swallownest, who have played two more games. Third-placed Frecheville are four points behind with three games in hand. Wombwell Main continued their unbeaten start to the Division One season with a 4-0 thrashing of visitors Davy on Saturday.Ryan Holdsworth hit a hat-trick and Luke Winfield also netted for second-placed Wombwell.

In the South Yorkshire Amateur League, Darton side Working Wonders recorded their best ever result on Saturday with an 8-0 success at bottom club Davy reserves.

There was success for Barnsley sides in the Sheffield Cups. Wombwell Main beat Sportsman 2013 3-0 in the Senior Cup. Cobcar came from behind twice to beat visitors Ivanhoe 5-3 in the Junior Cup while Ward Green won 2-1 at Finningley Athletic.
