Barnsley will be hoping to extend their unbeaten home run to 17 matches tomorrow when they welcome Manchester City under 21s to Oakwell for a 7.30pm kick-off in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The match is the first knock-out round of the competition after the Reds topped Group F with wins over Oldham Athletic, Bradford City and Everton under 21s.

City’s under 23s manager is Paul Harsley who had the same role at Oakwell before moving to the Premier League champions in the summer. He was also first team Reds caretaker for one game in February – a 1-1 derby draw with Sheffield Wednesday – between Paul Heckingbottom’s move to Leeds United and Jose Morais’ appointment.

The Reds will be looking for a second cup win of the week after a 4-2 success at Southend United on Saturday in the second round of the FA Cup.

Barnsley’s current head coach Daniel Stendel said: “We want to win the game on Tuesday but we will see how the players are feeling after the match at Southend. We have an important game coming up at Wycombe on Saturday.”

Victory would put Barnsley in the last 16 of the competition they won in 2016. There are two more rounds next month before the Northern Area finals in February and the Wembley final on March 31.
