GREEN-fingered pupils at Oxspring primary school were overjoyed to win a coveted bloom challenge for the fourth year in a row.

But the edge was taken off their stunning success when, due to an admin error, they never received their invitation to an official awards presentation for Barnsley area winners.

So to put matters right, Mayor of Barnsley Coun Steve Green went along to the school this week to hand over the accolade in person.

The school once again clinched the Yorkshire in Bloom RHS Young People’s Gold Award for their innovative garden.

Head teacher Sharon Irwin said at the time: “We have won this four years in a row plus the best in category prize so it looks like we have the best school garden in Yorkshire which is phenomenal.”

“Unfortunately, we didn’t get an invite to the awards ceremony due to an admin error.

“So Coun Green decided he would bring the award to the school for a special ceremony.”

And there was more good news for the school Mrs Irwin said the RHS want to use Oxspring as a case study.
